BET’s The Game, created by Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane), highlighted a Black same-sex couple in the latest episode, “Rules of the Street.” The show is centered around professional football players and their significant others as they navigate life. An injured Malik Wright, played by Hosea Chanchez, encounters a rehabilitation trainer while at physical therapy. After trying to hit on Yana, Wright is informed that she is in a relationship.
With the assistance of her girlfriend, Yana sets up Wright’s apartment for a training session. Once the apartment is ready the trainer kisses her girlfriend goodbye, leaving Wright surprised to see that she is in a relationship with a woman. Being a stereotypical straight male, Wright then claims that he is a lesbian, but Yana is not moved. With one look she shuts Wright down and they begin their training session.
