The experiences of Black lesbian and bisexual women have too often been erased from conversations about the LGBT community. Nneka Onuorah, creator and director of The Same Difference documentary, is trying to change that and is back at it again as she launches “We Are All Women,” a visibility campaign, to amplify the voices of Black lesbian and bisexual women and the issues we face daily. The Same Difference highlights how Black queer women perpetuate stigma and gender police one another.

“Now that I’ve addressed my lesbian community, I want to address everyone outside of that,” said Onuorah in an open letter about the new campaign. She goes on to reference everyone from anti-LGBT pastors to policymakers. The campaign launched with a stirring video highlighting our trials and triumphs.

A screening of The Same Difference will take place during Atlanta Black Pride on September 4, followed by a WNBA game. Over 18,000 women are expected to fill Philips Arena stadium, where “We Are All Women” will host a rally to raise awareness among attendees. Proceeds from the event will go towards more authentically telling the stories of Black lesbian and bisexual women in the media.
