ELIXHER just got off a whirlwind Indiegogo fundraising campaign. You’ve probably heard by now that we were able to exceed our goal. We’re still completely high off the love and support we received and continue to receive.
“The more I do work in Black LGBT space, the more compelled I feel to debunk the myth that Black people don’t give and don’t invest in their own,” ELIXHER founder Kimberley McLeod told bklyn boihood in an interview. “Community doesn’t build itself. And if we want to create and sustain the resources that are for us and by us, we have to invest in them.”
In the spirit of community-building, ELIXHER will be launching a monthly column featuring Black queer fundraising projects. We’re asking our readers to put aside just $20 a month (you’re encouraged to do more if you can afford it). Each month, your pledge to re-invest $20 back in our community can look like funding four different projects at $5 a piece. Or you can allocate all 20 bucks to one campaign.
ELIXHER is going to start off leading by example. Here are seven projects we publicly pledge on supporting and encourage you to do the same. If everyone reading this moves to action, we can fund each of these projects successfully. Can we count you in?! Leave a comment in the comment section or on Facebook/Twitter if we have your pledge.
