On June 9, our beloved Laverne Cox, who stars in Netflix’s highly acclaimed series Orange Is the New Black, appeared on the Wendy Williams Show. During the beginning of the segment Cox taught Williams how to say her popular tagline, “How you doin’?” in Hebrew. She also surprised the television host with a note from her hair (a cheeky reference to where the talk show host sometimes keeps Post-Its). After Williams congratulated Cox on the success of OITNB and discussed Cox’s decision to keep her day job while filming the first season of the hit show, things took an awkward turn, as Gawker pointed out. Although Cox remained poised, she was asked a few problematic questions. Check out the clip below.
On June 10, Cox also appeared on the Katie Show alongside fellow transgender activist and GLAAD’s Senior Media Strategist Tiq Milan. During the segment Cox talked about having the audacity to live authentically. Milan chimed in discussing the lack of cultural competency around health care and services for transgender people. Back in January, Cox appeared on the show alongside Carmen Carerra. Check out the clips from her most recent appearance right here on ELIXHER.
