Twenty-two-year-old trans artist Catherine Graffam has captured one of the most painful memories for queer women of color — and humanity as a whole — in a beautiful and haunting painting. In her series entitled I Promise I Will Not Forget You, Graffam depicts young Houston couple Crystal Jackson and Britney Cosby, who were tragically murdered in March 2014 allegedly by Cosby’s father because they were gay. The series portrays queer people who have died due to hate crimes against them.
Rest in Power, Britney and Crystal. We speak your names. We honor your lives. We will never forget you.
