If you’re a spoken word fan with a full tank of gas, but are low on cash, you should head north of the border to witness the acclaimed Climbing PoeTree perform in Toronto this Thursday. The jack-of-all-trades creative duo is interrupting their lengthy California tour to headline a showcase of female, activist-minded artists at Ryerson University. Performers like the M.A.D. Poet and Keisha Monique will also be on hand to contribute their own offerings of dub poetry, music and more. Herstory is part of Ryerson University’s 3rd annual Global Issues Awareness Week, with this year’s theme being “Diasporic Journeys.” Events are meant to “explore how migration, displacement, occupation, transnationalism, xenophobia, and globalization has an effect on communities and their rights to self-determination.” Any and all proceeds will be donated to the RSU Sexual Assault Survivor Support Line.
