And thank you for joining me on this journey. ELIXHER was created out of a void I witnessed both personally and professionally. As a Black queer woman and journalist, I noticed the lack of images and stories that spoke to my community and my experience. We are seldom portrayed in ways that represent our multifacetedness. We are more than an acronym. We are more than abstractions. We are daughters, mothers, wives, writers, doctors, ministers, optimists, cynics, laughers, criers, and so much more.

It is crucial that we create outlets that recognize our common humanity. In a time where the suicide rate among youth is on the rise, where unequal marriage laws put families at risk, where rape is deemed ‘corrective,’ our stories have the ability to heal and save lives.

Over the last few months, I’ve had the honor of meeting so many remarkable women. I’ve left each encounter so compelled and ignited by their passion. My hope is that within their stories, you can see your own truths, your own pains, your own powers, and above all, the beauty and freedom in acceptance of self.

On ELIXHER, you’ll find stories from real women, spotlights on some of the groundbreaking grassroots movements taking place within the community, and articles on various topics. Be sure to check back daily for updates.
